Love Walk

As believers, We are called to walk in a way that expresses the love of Christ in this world we live in everyday. This is truly a challenge but one that is of the utmost importance to live a life yielded to The Spirit of God and to be distinguished from others in this world.

Here are some scriptures from God’s Word on Love.

PEOPLE KNOW THAT WE ARE CHRISTIANS BY OUR LOVE FOR OTHERS –

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. ASV

JESUS COMMANDS US TO LOVE GOD AND OTHERS –

Matt 22:37-39 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. NKJV

In this text Jesus quoted the “Shema” (Deut 6; 4), a statement of faith that was recited daily by every orthodox Jew (The word ‎Shema ‎comes from the Hebrew word which means, “to hear.”

Deut 6; 4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. NKJV

True love is a matter of the will as well as the heart. Where there is love for God there will be the desire to serve and to obey Him.

Note that we are called to love God in this first commandment, but the second commandment lets us know that we must also love our neighbor as ourselves.

Jesus is quoting the scripture verse Lev 19;18 to show us this principle.

Lev 19:18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD. NKJV

If we have a right relationship with God, we will have no problems with His commandments.
Love is the basis for obedience.
John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. NKJV

In fact, all of the Law is summed up in love.

Rom 13:8-10 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,”* “You shall not covet,”* and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”* 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. NKJV

If we love God, we will love our neighbor; and if we love our neighbor, we will not want to do anything to harm him.

Lord, help us today to yield to The Holy Spirit and choose to love others so that people will see You!

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. ASV
